I really don't know where or how to start checking and fixing this or perhaps this is normal, I do coolant change every 2 years or sooner. I heard about coolant electrolysis theory before, after checking my E36 M3 coolant with VM it reads 0.2V, does this tell that there is a grounding problem somewhere. The common green stuff now these days from a good name brand should be fine in any vehicle. Just some have a 'lifetime' service interval.Where once its done you don't need to do it anymore.Not sure I believe that. So REALLY.ANY good brand named coolant is going to work. The VW G12 and others like it have a lot of addatives to try to help 'fix' any damamge that may have happened due to running older, straight glycol products. The differences we have now is change intervals, different addatives, lubracation, and corrosion inhibiting addatives. Meaning it has kept the anti freezing abilities of the glycol.but everything else has been removed.The stuff that ate away at aluminum. Just decided to add this in for people without a dealer within walking distance (Mine is 80 miles away) Pretty sure ALL coolant now is BASED on Glycol.Not only glycol. Its made by Petosin, a European company.Great this is just what I wanted to hear. I imagine BMW would be the same way if you used the Blue stuff. VW had huge problems with useing G11 And they had a TSB to change all of the VR6 engines to G12 coolant because of the aluminum heads. Use red G12 in our cars with aluminum heads. G11 is Blue, which is like the green stuff. I wouldn't really recommend useing the green or orange stuff you see in auto stores. You likely won't see a problem in yours just by useing improper coolant. Less than that is pretty much okay, and all cars probably have SOME. You should NOT read any more than 0.10 volts DC. Stick a probe in the coolant and one on engine ground. To check it.You just get a volt meter and check that there is no voltage being read from the system. Any vehicle with accessories bolted to the radiator support or to a nearby component is also a good candidate for electrolysis. A poor ground to the radiator's electric cooling fan, or a poor ground from the starter motor and engine block to the battery. Electrolysis occurs when electrical current routes itself through the engine's coolant in search of electrical ground. This can sometimes be inreased by useing imporper coolant for that engine. Causeing severe corrosion inside the water jackets. Some cars have a tendancy to have an electrolysis problem.
